The provision of electricity services by individuals or entities in Lagos State without a licence or permit has been prohibited by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC).
The prohibition is contained in the first major order issued yesterday by LASERC since the domestication of power regulation in the state.
The directive titled ‘’LASERC ORDER/001/2025’’ formally brings electricity market operations under the agency’s exclusive control.
“This Order reinforces LASERC’s mandate to ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable electricity market in Lagos,” said Fouad Animashaun, chief executive officer and Executive Commissioner of LASERC.
“We are committed to upholding global standards and protecting electricity users and investor interests in the evolving power sector,” Animashaun added.
The order stated that only permits granted by LASERC would be recognised for electricity activities in the state and that it nullifies the previous reliance on federal licenses for independent electricity operations within the state.
The commission warned that violators of the new directive risked penalties of not less than N20 million, in addition to a daily fine of N20,000 for continued non-compliance.
It also advised unlicensed operators to cease all activities immediately and apply for an appropriate license through LASERC.
