Lagos police brings in officer caught on camera shooting in Ladipo market

The Lagos State Police Command has identified the person in a viral video shown shooting an AK47 rifle in Ladipo Market as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, serving in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against the officer for his unprofessional, unethical and dangerous behavior.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the development on Wednesday.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer assured members of the public that the Lagos Command will not tolerate any form of deviant behavior from its officers and men, while those found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with laid down rules.

Trouble began for Kwanchi after he was captured firing shots into the air to celebrate the reopening of Ladipo market.

In the viral video which was shared on X on Tuesday, the officer was seen shooting into the air while onlookers cheered him on.

The market was “sealed for several environmental offences, including reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, and non-payment of waste bills, among others” in September.

It was reopened two weeks after following their compliance with the state’s environmental laws.
