The Lagos State Judiciary, in partnership with the Law Hub Development and Advocacy Centre (Law Hub), will today, Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, at 2:00 p.m., launch the Lagos State Judiciary Non-Custodial Sentencing Practice Direction 2025 at Providence Hotel, 12A Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

The launch is part of the MacArthur Foundation’s On Nigeria Project aimed at strengthening justice sector reforms and promoting alternatives to custodial sentencing.

The event is expected to draw key stakeholders in the justice sector, including representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Correctional Service, members of the Bar, and the media.

According to the Director of Law Hub, Osita Okoro, Esq., the new Practice Direction was developed to bridge critical gaps in the implementation of non-custodial sentencing under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of Lagos State.

The Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, who has approved and signed the Practice Direction, is expected to officially unveil the document at the ceremony.

Okoro described the development as “a milestone that will help decongest correctional centres, entrench restorative justice, and strengthen public confidence in justice delivery in Lagos State.”
