Lagos Govt Warns LG, LCDA Chairmen Against Altering Sanwo-Olu’s Approved EXCO Lists

Lagos State Govt Warns Charmen on Excos List

The Lagos State Government has warned chairmen of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) against altering Executive Committee (EXCO) lists approved by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The warning was contained in an official memo dated March 4, 2026, issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development and addressed to the chairmen of the 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs in the state.

In the document signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, the government said its attention had been drawn to reports that some council chairmen were altering the list of EXCO members approved by the governor.

According to the memo, such actions are unacceptable and amount to a breach of trust.

“This action is unacceptable and constitutes a breach of trust and protocol, and also constitutes an affront to the Office of Mr. Governor,” the ministry stated.

The ministry stressed that the EXCO list approved by the governor remains the authentic list, directing chairmen to comply strictly with it.

“The Ministry is hereby reiterating that the Executive Committee (EXCO) list approved by Mr. Governor is the authentic one, hence Chairmen are enjoined to ensure strict compliance with the list and maintain the integrity of their position,” the statement added.

The development follows the circulation of official documents relating to council appointments.

One of the documents dated March 2, 2026, issued on the letterhead of the Lagos State Government and addressed to the Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, conveyed the approved list of the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Supervisors and Special Advisers.

The letter indicated it was written on the directive of the governor and was signed by Hon. Bolaji Kayode Robert, identified as Honourable Commissioner.

Another document in circulation shows a similar list dated March 2, 2022 relating to Agege Local Government, also forwarding approved names for council appointments.

The state government, however, reiterated in its latest directive that only the lists approved by the governor should be recognised and implemented by council authorities.
