January 31 or face penalties, LIRS warns Lagos employers

LIRS

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has reminded employers across the state that 31 January 2026 is the final deadline for submitting annual tax returns for the 2025 financial year.

In a statement, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair, said the requirement is backed by the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, stressing that employers must disclose all employee emoluments and ensure taxes due are fully remitted.

He warned that failure to comply would attract penalties under the law, describing tax filing as a compulsory obligation rather than a voluntary exercise.

Subair added that all returns must be filed electronically via the LIRS eTax platform, as manual submissions are no longer accepted. He urged employers to file early, ensure accurate employee Tax Identification Numbers, and seek assistance through official LIRS channels where necessary.
