Instant Certificate: CAC introduces 10-minute business registration

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has introduced an Artificial Intelligence-powered Companies Registration Portal (ICRP) that can complete business registration in less than 10 minutes.
Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN), announced this during the 2025 CAC Management Retreat in Kaduna, marking his second year in office.
He described the new portal, launched on June 30, 2025, as a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s business registration process.

The system allows users to reserve company names, register their businesses, and instantly get certificates  all without staff involvement.
Magaji explained that this progress came after years of technical challenges that almost crippled the CAC’s operations.

“When I took office in 2023, the system crashed often and mixed up company data. We had to rebuild everything,” he said.
He commended the CAC’s technology partner, Oasis, for successfully developing the new AI-driven platform.
Magaji also revealed that the next stage of AI development at CAC will include AI tools for monitoring compliance, processing approvals, and managing customer service. Soon, he said, CAC’s call centre will use AI agents to handle thousands of emails within minutes.
He noted that the CAC’s AI model was inspired by the United Kingdom’s Companies House, which is also using AI to boost efficiency. “AI will not replace people; it will help them work better,” he explained.
To support this transformation, Magaji said new performance targets have been introduced across all departments to ensure that everyone benefits from the AI upgrade.
He also reviewed his Four-Point Agenda  staff welfare, capacity building, institutional reform, and revenue growth  highlighting improvements such as equal pay, full pension and health payments, and new staff vehicles.
Magaji added that the Commission has held more local and international training sessions this year than in its entire 35-year history. “Over 700 workshops have been organized so far,” he said.
He emphasized that the use of AI has removed human delays and external interference in business registration.

“Every action is recorded. Even the Registrar-General cannot alter the system,” he stated.
Finally, Magaji encouraged staff to see AI as a tool to make their jobs easier, not a threat. “AI will handle routine work, so you can focus on complex cases and customer care,” he said, urging everyone to maintain honesty and fairness in their duties.
“Let us build a smart and trustworthy institution that future generations will be proud of,” he concluded.
