Four brothers and two others, have been charged with impersonation in Ibadan. The defendants, Isaac Adeaga 27, John Adeaga, 21, Tomiwa Adeaga, 26 and Samuel Adeaga, 27, all of whom are brothers, while two others are Ridwan Adisa, 22 and Kehinde Popoola, 30, appeared in court on Thursday.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Jan. 25, 2025, at about 10.20 a.m, at Ayegun Oleyo area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendants, with the intent to defraud, represented themselves on Facebook, Gmail and Tiktok, as white ladies living in the United States of America.
He alleged that the defendants also used foreign numbers to defraud people.
Adegbenro said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 484 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Olasinmibo Sanusi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Sanusi held that one of the sureties must be a parent of the defendants and the other person, a level 10 civil servant officer with proof of land ownership. She adjourned the case until March 10, for hearing.
