A 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, has been banished from his community in Ebonyi State after allegedly killing his mother in a shocking incident that has left residents in mourning.
The tragic incident happened in Ohatekwe Ukawu, in Onicha Local Government Area, where the suspect reportedly attacked his mother, Onyemaechi, with a machete over the weekend.
According to sources in the community, Oforbuike fled into a nearby forest after the incident, but was later tracked down and arrested by local youths who launched a search operation.
He was subsequently paraded around the community before elders declared him banished, warning him never to return.
In a viral video recorded during the parade, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted because his mother refused to bathe him and declined to provide money to set up a barbing salon for his brother.
“I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother who learned barbing and needed money to start,” he said.
The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the incident, stating that over 200 youths were mobilised to comb the forest and apprehend the suspect.
He added that Oforbuike has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue as the community continues to grapple with the shocking development.
