On the 20th of October, 2023, Joyce Oduah, Immd. Past General Secretary shared with the Law School Students the skills necessary to thrive in the legal profession: Emotional and Social Intelligence. She noted that while cognitive skills were necessary, managing the emotions of self and others and managing social situations would “enable [them] to succeed tremendously sooner rather than later.”
She said, “Pay attention to others, and put your phone aside when you’re having a conversation with someone…. Love others”. She encouraged the students to face their forthcoming examinations fearlessly and calmly.”
She invited the students to participate in her upcoming mentorship scheme, “The Agile Legal Professional”, which would feature prominent legal professionals from all spectrums of the Legal Profession to guide them on their legal journey.
In an interview with Joyce, she noted that speaking to young lawyers was her favourite thing to do as it is her voice into the future.
