FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has blasted human rights lawyer Femi Falana for commenting on the movement restrictions imposed during last weekend’s FCT Council elections.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Wike urged Falana to limit his public remarks to issues he has facts about, saying, “With all due respect, Femi Falana must not always comment just because he wants to comment. Comment on something you know about and have facts on. You can’t just wake up, and you heard somebody said this, and you can’t even verify before you make comments.”
The FCT Minister was responding to criticisms of the movement restrictions announced for the elections held on Saturday, February 21.
Wike had earlier explained in a special broadcast on Thursday, February 20, that movement within the FCT would be restricted from 8 p.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday, with the approval of President Tinubu, to ensure a smooth and orderly conduct of the polls.
Wike stressed that the measures were intended to guarantee a peaceful electoral process and insisted that criticisms based on unverified claims undermine the efforts to maintain order during elections.
