A self-styled prophet in Ebonyi State has landed in big trouble after being dragged before a Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki over a long list of crimes, including attempted murder, arson, stealing, defamation of character, and malicious damage.
The 24-year-old, identified as Prophet Ubadinma, was accused of spreading fake prophecies that triggered chaos in villages across Izzi and Ikwo LGAs between 2020 and 2025.
One of his controversial prophecies labelled a businessman, Emeka Mgbore (aka EmmyBest), as a ritualist. The video went viral, sparking mob attacks and looting of the man’s shops in Ogun State.
Police slammed 16 charges on the suspect in four separate cases. While the court granted him bail of N2 million each in two defamation cases, the Magistrate refused bail in the more serious charges of attempted murder, arson, and stealing, ruling that her court lacked jurisdiction.
The matter has now been transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for further action, with hearings fixed for September 15 and 16, 2025.
