The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged terrorism financing.

The duo were docked on Tuesday before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on a five-count charge bordering on aiding and abetting terrorism through financing. They both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the charge sheet, Malami is accused of knowingly aiding terrorism financing by allegedly refusing to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were forwarded to his office during his tenure as Attorney-General of the Federation.

The former AGF and his son are also accused of preparing to commit acts of terrorism by allegedly being in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition without a licence. Items listed include a Sturm Magnum 17-0101 firearm, 16 live rounds of Redstar AAA 5.20 cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges of the same brand.

Malami was earlier arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud and money laundering before the matter was taken over by the DSS.

Proceedings are ongoing.
