1st January, 2026
Dear Esteemed Colleague,
As the dawn of a new year breaks upon us, I write with profound gratitude, quiet reflection, and renewed resolve. The transition from 2025 to 2026 is more than a passage of time; it is a sacred pause—a moment to look back with appreciation, look around with empathy, and look ahead with hope and purpose.
The year 2025 was, in many respects, a defining chapter in the life of our Association. It tested our convictions, stretched our resilience, and yet reaffirmed the enduring strength of our collective spirit. Through moments of progress and periods of pressure, the Nigerian Bar Association remained steadfast—guided by principle, strengthened by unity, and sustained by the unwavering commitment of its members across branches and generations.
We celebrated achievements that reinforced our place as the conscience of the nation’s legal profession. Our conferences, reforms, advocacy efforts, and professional engagements reflected a Bar that is alive, responsive, and forward-looking. At the same time, we mourned the loss of valued colleagues—icons whose dedication to justice and service left indelible imprints on our profession. Their memories remind us that the Bar is not merely an institution, but a living legacy—built by those who came before and entrusted to those who now serve.
On a personal note, I remain deeply humbled by the honour of serving as your General Secretary. The privilege of this office has brought me into close encounter with the soul of the NBA: the sacrifices made quietly, the ideas shared generously, and the passion for justice that unites us beyond titles or seniority. I thank you sincerely for your confidence, cooperation, and constant encouragement.
As we step boldly into 2026, I invite us all to renew our commitment to a higher calling. Let us work towards a Bar that is more inclusive, more innovative, and more compassionate. Let us strengthen mentorship, uphold ethical excellence, deepen public-interest advocacy, and continue to position the law as a tool for social good. The road ahead may not always be smooth, but together, we possess the wisdom, courage, and resolve to navigate it.
I seize this opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the leadership of our President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, whose vision and steadiness continue to inspire confidence across the Association. I also thank the members of the National Executive Committee, the dedicated staff of the NBA National Secretariat, and my predecessors in office whose foundational efforts continue to guide our strides. To every branch, every section, every forum, every committee, and every member of the Bar—you are the heartbeat of this noble Association.
Going forward, I reaffirm that the NBA National Secretariat remains fully open and committed to serving members through its various departments, ensuring efficiency, accessibility, and professional satisfaction.
