The Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), has asked Governor Monday Okpebholo to stop wasteful spendings that are not beneficial to the people of Edo State.
CRPP said this in reaction to the proposal of Okpebholo to establish an an airline for Edo State. CRPP in a statement on Tuesday by its Regional President, Dr. Samson Isibor said it was appalled at the initiative, wondering how the state government would rake in funds to establish such a capital intensive venture.
Isibor further wondered why Okpebholo’s government will ignore road construction, insecurity and poverty in the state to embark on such ”white elephant project”.
“CRPP its is not happy with the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpeholo, priotising some self-adulation projects” which should not be a priority of any serious government.
Isibor stressed that Edo Air is not people-oriented, uncalled for and has no bearing for the survival of Edo people and should be discarded immediately.
According to it, there are hundreds of state roads including federal begging for rehabilitations, especially in the rural areas whereby many of the populace have been cut off.
“Many villages have no roads to bring their farm produce to the urban areas for sale. Insecurity in the state is increasing daily and unabated, thousands of our youths are unemployed thereby adding to the insecurity in the state, yet we have a governor, who is not bothered about the plight and poor conditions of life in the state.
“There is no any agenda for the masses in Edo State, since Okpeholo assumed office, everybody is lamenting the critical situation in Edo State, the Governor should tell us what the masses have benefited since he assume office.
“How much does it cost to acquire one airline e.g Boeing 707; What happened to about ₦100b loan approval by the rubber stamp House of Assembly; Is it productive to establish an airlines that will cost the state over ₦5 trillion,” Isibor noted.
