Court remands Yahaya for allegedly stabbing friend to death

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, remanded one Abubakar Yahaya, of Tudun Gwandara Lafia, Nasarawa State, for allegedly stabbing his friend to death.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adah Jack, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.

She ordered that the defendant be remanded in Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigations.

Adah adjourned the case till Nov. 7 for further mention.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp James Ewache, told the court that the defendant was arrested by one Cpl. Shaapera Aseer attached to Quarantine Checkpoint North Bank, Makurdi on Oct 10.

James further said that the defendant had a little misunderstanding with his friend, Persel Musa of Deeper Life area Lafia, Nasarawa State when they were stopped at the quarantine checkpoint.

“The defendant stabbed his friend, Persel, with a jack knife and the victim died as a result of the injury,” he stated.

The prosecutor, who said that the matter was still ongoing, prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said that the offence contravened Section 222 of the Penal Code, Law of Benue State, 2004.
