An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan on Thursday remanded a woman, Motunrayo Adegoke in a correctional facility for defrauding her business partner of N2 million.
Adegoke was charged with obtaining goods under false pretences and stealing, to which she pleaded guilty. The Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe, therefore, remanded her at Agodi Correctional Centre until Nov. 11, for the review of facts and sentencing.
The prosecutor, Insp Olalekan Adegbite told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Sept. 13, 2025 and Oct. 22, 2025, at Moniya area of Ibadan.
Adegbite said defendant collected goods worth N2, 062, 500 from a business partner, Mrs Nimota Olayiwola, to sell and remit the money back to her.
He explained that the defendant collected 25 bags of rice, 25 litres of vegetable oil, cartons of magi, cartons of soap, packs of spaghetti, macaroni, among others.
He said the defendant made away with the goods and failed to remit the money to the complainant and business partner, Olayiwola.
Adegbite said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
