The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced four internet fraudsters nabbed in a dramatic EFCC sting operation at a hotel near the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.
The convicts-Bisiriyu Roqeeb Abiodun, Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, Akinwale Isaac, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo, were among 93 suspected “Yahoo Boys” rounded up by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the operation that shook the ancient city.
Justice D.I. Dipeolu, presiding over their separate trials on Friday, August 15, 2025, found them guilty of multiple counts of impersonation and internet fraud after each pleaded guilty to the charges.
Court documents revealed how the fraudsters posed as fictitious female characters and professionals online to deceive unsuspecting victims.
Abiodun posed as “Sharon,” an American woman, in a bid to swindle a victim in Tennessee; Olatunji paraded himself as “Camila” through a fake Gmail account; Isaac lured victims on WhatsApp using the identities “Monica” and “Daisy”; while Oshundairo pretended to be an expert in tax and service certificates, duping his targets in the process.
The EFCC tendered damning evidence, including mobile phones, fraudulent accounts, incriminating emails, and bank drafts of restitution already made by the defendants. With overwhelming proof, Justice Dipeolu wasted no time in handing down sentences.
Olatunji was jailed one month with an option of a ₦500,000 fine. Oshundairo, who pocketed ₦600,000 from his schemes, was sentenced to 30 days of community service in Ogun State under EFCC and Correctional Centre supervision.
Isaac, who admitted receiving $500 from his scams, bagged three months in prison with the option of a ₦1 million fine.
The judge also ordered the forfeiture of his iPhone 16 Pro Max, a Galaxy Note 9, ₦400,000 in restitution, and a 2017 Toyota Camry to the Federal Government.
Abiodun, who admitted to making $200 from his fraudulent activity, was sentenced to one month in prison with the option of a ₦500,000 fine. His Samsung Galaxy S20 and ₦200,000 restitution were likewise forfeited to the state.
