Call for Papers: Akure Bar Journal Seeks Original Manuscripts in Diverse Legal Practice Areas for Next Journal Volume

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Editorial Board of the Akure Bar Journal invites well researched articles in diverse areas of legal practice for publication in the next volume of its journal.

The Akure Bar Journal is a peer-reviewed journal and it is devoted to publishing in all areas of legal practice as well as reviews of spectacular contemporary cases and statutes. It is mandatory that any article submitted for publication must be original manuscript and should not have been published or submitted elsewhere for publication. Preference will be given to article with comparative flavor in terms of jurisdictions.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

All Manuscripts submitted for publication must comply with the following guidelines.

1) The manuscripts must be in Microsoft word format with font 12 size using Time New Roman character, typed in U.K English and with 1.5 line spacing on A4 paper.

2) All referencing must be done with automatic footnoting using font size 10, numbered consecutively and in accordance with the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) citation style, fourth edition. The OSCOLA citation style can be assessed at http://www.law.ox.ac.uk/oscola

3) Article shall not exceed 8000 words and each submitted article must have about five to six keywords immediately after the abstract, for indexing purpose.

4) The manuscripts shall be subjected to blind peer review. As such, the names and institutions/affiliations of the author should not be included at the head of the manuscript, except the title of the manuscript. Rather, these shall be on the title page which shall contain the title of the manuscript, the name of the author with qualifications obtained, the author’s institutional affiliation, professional and/or academic status and email address.

5) The body of the manuscript shall commence with an abstract of not more than 200 words before the introduction.

6) The manuscript submitted must not infringe copyright or be defamatory or obscene or otherwise unlawful or litigious.

7) Page numbering must be at the bottom-center of each page.

In addition, authors must follow the following guidelines:

a. For Books: Author’s surname followed by initials, title of the book (in italics), edition, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, and page number. For example, Ajayi, A.O., Principles of Natural Justice, 3rd ed., (Lagos: Springer Publishers, 1995), p. 65.

b. For Journal Articles: surname followed by initials, title of the article (in inverted commas), volume, number/year, journal title (in italics), page number. For example,
Ojo, J.A., “Recovery of Premises Law in Nigeria: Practice and Procedure” vol. 12, 2021, Journal of Human Rights, p. 15.

c. For Cases: Cases should be cited in the body of the articles in italics. Citations should reflect at the footnotes. For example, (1999)2 NWLR (Pt.16) p.216.

d. For Statutes: Full names of the statutes with the year of enactment. For example, Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) Cap. C.23 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

e. For internet sources or web pages, citations should follow the conventions above for either books or articles. However, the web address and date when the material was accessed should be indicated.

f. Authors must make appropriate use of cross referencing where necessary, especially when a previously cited work is being referred to. Authors to also make the appropriate use of abbreviations like ibid, op cit, supra etc, where required.

g. Authors to use italics for foreign words for emphasis sake.

h. Quotations of more than 3 lines to be indented in both sides and to either be in inverted commas or italics.

i. Contributions could be sent either by email attachment in Microsoft word or word perfect format to nbaakurelawjournal@gmail.com.
