Your theme — “Imperatives of Independencey of the Judiciary in a Working Democracy: The Common Law Jurisdiction and Nigerian Experience” is both apt and timely. This is because, judicial independence is not an abstract principle; it is the foundation of democracy and the surest safeguard of the rule of law. The Bar has a duty to defend this independence with courage and to uphold the ethics that sustain public confidence in our justice system.
