Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, on Tuesday formally submitted his nomination form for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association, taking a key step in the build-up to the Association’s forthcoming elections.

The submission, which took place on 8th April, 2026, was in compliance with the guidelines issued by the Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA).

Though a routine requirement in the electoral process, the exercise attracted attention as Akinboro was accompanied by a large number of colleagues, supporters and notably, young lawyers.

Observers said the turnout reflects increasing interest in the NBA electoral process, particularly among younger members of the Bar, as well as a broader level of engagement within the profession.

Speaking after submitting his form, Akinboro expressed gratitude to God and appreciated those who turned out in support of his aspiration.

“I give all glory to God Almighty who has made this moment possible,” he said.

The visible presence of young lawyers at the event also highlighted ongoing discussions around generational inclusion, mentorship and the future of the legal profession.

Although campaigns are yet to officially commence, developments surrounding the nomination process are already shaping early expectations and alignments ahead of the elections.

With submissions ongoing, attention is expected to shift to screening of candidates and increased engagement across the Bar.

Akinboro’s move adds to the list of aspirants and signals what may emerge as a keenly contested race for the NBA presidency.
