Afam Okeke Commends AfBA’s Accra Conference, Calls for African Economic Self-Reliance

Life Member of the African Bar Association (AfBA) and member of its Governing Council, Afam O. Okeke, Esq., has extended his goodwill message to the AfBA community as it convenes the 2025 Annual Conference in Accra, Ghana.

In his message, Okeke congratulated the association on the successful organization of the conference, themed “Foreign Interest in Africa: Exploitation or Investment?” describing it as “both timely and vital for Africa’s sustainable development.”

He noted that the conference presents a crucial platform for African legal practitioners to critically assess the impact of foreign aid and investment on the continent’s growth trajectory—particularly whether such engagements promote empowerment or deepen dependency.

Commending the AfBA leadership for initiating what he termed a “bold and necessary dialogue,” Okeke emphasized the importance of developing homegrown strategies that promote economic self-reliance and genuine empowerment across Africa.

“With the caliber of speakers and discussants assembled, I am confident that this will be a thought-provoking and rewarding conference,” he stated.

He further wished all participants a fruitful and impactful deliberation, expressing optimism that the insights from the gathering would shape a stronger, self-sustaining Africa.
