Court sends butcher to prison custody for stabbing man over mea

A Chief Magistrate Court in Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a butcher, Garba Mohammed, for allegedly stabbing man with a knife.
Chief Magistrate, Omolola Akindele, gave this order after the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Akindele ordered the prosecution to ascertain the condition of the complainant and also to find out the degree of injuries done on him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt.
Prosecutor, Pascal Njoku, informed the court that Nazifi Mohammed lodge the complaint against the accused at the Karu Police Station on July 24.
Njoku said that the accused, some time in March, stabbed the complainant over disagreement on payment for N13,000 worth of meat he sold in the market.
He said the complainant sustained injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor said that the accused confessed to the crime during police investigation. He added that the offence contravened Section 241 of the Penal Code.
The case was adjourned till Wednesday for hearing of the bail application.
