A 59-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, has been dragged before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cocoa beans valued at N1 million.

Jimoh, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, malicious damage, and breach of peace. He pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor, Insp. Adesina Elijah, told the court that Jimoh stormed a farm at Itamarun Village, Ile-Ife, on August 11 around 10 a.m., belonging to one Mr. Ewu Tojola, and carted away the cocoa beans.

He further alleged that the accused destroyed some economic trees on the farm and conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The offences, according to Elijah, are contrary to Sections 82, 383, and 388 of the Criminal Law of Osun State, 2002.

Defence counsel, Martins Awe, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring that he would not abscond.

Magistrate Kikelomo Adebayo admitted Jimoh to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

She ruled that the surety must be a blood relation, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Osun State Government.
